PCA Acceptance Speech
January 11, 2005

- DigitalSpy posted a ridiculous story about Johnny Depp's acceptance speech at the People's Choice Awards Sunday night, claiming his "fans" were alarmed and concerned by his appearance. The article says he looked "disheveled" and his speech was stuttering and disjointed. Unfortunately, this nonsense is being picked up by other sites around the 'net now, too.

I interact with literally thousands of his fans every day, and not one has expressed any concern over his speech. It was funny. It was unique. It was completely and utterly Johnny. He could have been sitting in a van out in the parking lot for all we care (which would make it even funnier, actually...) And it was much more entertaining than standing on stage in front of a microphone tearily thanking everyone he's ever met...

Even though the bandwidth usage is probably going to kill me, HERE is a video file for his speech in its entirety. (PLEASE don't play it directly from the site if you don't have to -- right-click on the link and select "save target as" to download it to your computer before playing, if at all possible.)

He's not stuttering, he's not disjointed, and he's certainly not disheveled. Contrary to what DigitalSpy says, his fans "get" him. And personally, I'm looking forward to my cup of coffee.
