GENERAL INFORMATION

Nobody could have imagined the impact that the striking Vianne (Juliette Binoche) would make when she arrived in a tranquil, old-fashioned French town. In her very unusual chocolate shop, Vianne begins to create mouth-watering confections that almost magically inspire the straitlaced villagers to abandon themselves to temptation and happiness. But it is not until another stranger, the handsome Roux (Johnny Depp), arrives in town that Vianne is finally able to recognize her own desires.

ABOUT THIS MOVIE

(Compiled by Mofish, Vicky and Kaitlyn)

Quotes from Johnny Depp:

"I ate more chocolate than I wanted to. About three seconds more in the take, and I probably would have been spewing."
--Johnny Depp
World Entertainment News Network
December 2000

"Juliette is amazing; beautiful and deep and she makes you fall in love with her. I think as an actress she's deeply committed, intense and works very, very hard, while constantly thinking. Shes capable of anything and never does the same thing twice, so it's always a bit of a surprise. I think she's very gifted and makes really good choices; if art is possible in cinema then I think she's doing her best to come as close as she can."
--Johnny Depp

"One of the things appealed to me when I read the screenplay was (its theme) that it's OK to break the sort of boundaries of what is normal - or what is considered normal. You've got to step outside of that and break the routine and not be so afraid to try new things."
--Johnny Depp

"We close ourselves off and we live in these little worlds that are comfortable and safe. It's routine and boring and filled with fear and guilt and it's no good, you know? It's no good for you."
--Johnny Depp

"I think, more than anyone else in the film, that somehow it [occurred] to me that I was the one who was going to be eating the most chocolate. And I'm not a huge fan of chocolate, especially really rich, deep, dark, bitter chocolate. I like the cheap stuff. And I was eating chocolate take after take after take."
--Johnny Depp

"[I wanted] to play a character who was a kind of outside, but very, very comfortable outside. [Someone] who's not a victim - doesn't betray himself or feel like a victim. He's outside, because he wants to be outside. I like being outside. I don't want to be caught up in the who's-who stuff. ... I don't want to play the game, you know. ... I just am not interested."
--Johnny Depp
CNN.com

"Well, the film ... has such a kind of magical quality, and it doesn't particularly feel like an American film, you know, it just doesn't feel like an American product. It has something very European about it."
--Johnny Depp

"Judi Dench I've fallen madly in love with. She's unbelievable. What a presence. What an amazing woman. Very funny. There's some people that you don't expect to be funny. You expect them to be very blinders on, forging ahead and never really straying from the path. You don't expect them to have a sense of humor. You expect them to be ultra serious. I was pleasantly surprised with Judi because she was constantly laughing."
--Johnny Depp
Chocolate DVD interview

Quotes from others:

"Johnny is very easy to work with. I think this is one of the most pleasant times I have had on a movie. It's a chemistry. You never know why it happens, but when it does, you have to say it and share it because it's not always the case. We have scenes were I think it's more about what's not said than what's said."
--Juliette Binoche

"[Johnny Depp is] my perfect chocolate -- he's dark, sumptuous, and tasty."
