From Emily
Toronto Film Festival, Birks Boutique "Corpse Bride" After Party
September 10, 2005

We arrived at the premiere of "The Corpse Bride" a bit late and were disappointed to find out that Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast had already entered the show about a half hour earlier. We did not have tickets and the stand by ticket line already went all the way down the street.

Our hopes were not squashed yet though, thanks to the info at deppimpact.com we knew were the after party for the movie was being held. So we walked to Birks Boutique and found there was already a small gathering of people. All the windows to the store were decorated with Corpse Bride figurines. There was a black car that said "Just Married" on it. There were two carpets, one that went straight to the front doors and another on the side.

We decided to wait by the one on the side. A girl who was already waiting there, already saw Johnny Depp at the premiere and had his autograph. She showed us a bunch of pictures she had on her camera, she only needed Helena Bonham Carter's signature on her poster and she had the entire cast of the movie! I was quite jealous.

As time went on more and more people began to show up. We waited there for at least two or three hours. By the time it was almost time of the cast to arrive there were tons of people, people across the street in all directions. There was a really tall man standing in front of me, and I'm really short so I couldn't see a thing. I asked him if I could go in front and he said "Go ahead shorty, squeeze through." So now I was right behind the velvet rope!

Heath Ledger was the first to arrive and walked so fast by everyone, no one got a picture. Danny Elfman took his time, but by the time I realized who he was he was gone. Then Micheal Madsen who was Sonny Black in Donnie Brasco arrived. The security guards all held hands and leaned back against the crowd to hold them back. Then came Helena Bonham Carter, who walked a little more slowly down the carpet and stopped only to sign the girls poster, giving her the entire casts signatures! Following close behind her was Tim Burton, who also walked slow enough for picture taking opportunities.

Then finally after a long wait, Johnny Depp arrived!! He waved to the people across the street and then went very speedly down the carpet. I can't believe I actually got a picture of him, he went so fast. I'm a little disappointed he didn't stop to sign anything, because I was right at the front and would have gotten a signature for sure. As he got up the steps to the press back drop he must have stayed there for about two seconds as well, I could no longer see at this point, but before you knew it he was inside and gone.

I only wish I could have been there earlier to see him at the premiere but at least I got to see him and got a picture! Next time I'll be ready.

Actor's Fund Gala, New York
October 30, 2004

The stars were out Saturday night in Manhattan despite the heavy clouds and ominous threats of rain. The night was about raising money for The Actors Fund, it was called That’s Entertainment and was held at the magnificent Waldorf Astoria.

The guest list was prestigious to say the least, including Angela Lansbury, who accepted a Lifetime Acheivement Award. Bernadette Peters, Christina Ebersol and Robin Strasser among others, but the night belonged to Johnny Depp.

I had butterflies in my stomach for days before I actually set foot in the Waldorf Astoria that night. My dream to actually see Johnny in person was about to come true. I never in a million years expected to actually get to meet him, speak to him, get photos of my own or see myself with him on the internet.

There was Security everywhere. Men in suits with ear phones in their ears. Just like the secret service. You couldn’t go here, or there.

The photographers were already in "photo mode" as the honored guests were presented to them. Flashbulbs crackled, as star after star was ushered by. No one seemed to notice or mind that my husband, Dean and I were among them. Suddenly, I was being pushed aside as I heard one say to the other, "Who is that woman?" the other replied, "I don’t know man, but leave her alone, she was here first." I stood my ground for awhile and got some great shots. The next thing I knew Security tightened up and we were asked to step out.

Standing just outside the closed doors I knew Johnny Depp was about to enter the room. A frenzy of flashbulbs began and we knew he was there. In we went again. I was not about to let this opportunity pass me by. I got a couple of shots before Security started to usher a cool, Mr. Depp, "I just kind of suck it up."out of the room and mass confusion. "Johnny, Congratulations, you deserve it…", I yelled , as he casually strolled by, he seemed so unfruffled on the outside, no more than three feet from me. He stopped, looked right at me and said "Thank you, very much." I could barely catch my breath. This was the first of several minor encounters my husband and I would have with the very gracious, very patient Mr. Depp that evening.

A short while later, I noticed that Johnny was no longer at his dining table. My husband and I decided it was the perfect time for a much needed pit stop. I left Dean alone in the hallway with the autograph book for 5 minutes, I swear that’s all it was. When I came back he said. "I can’t believe it, you just missed Johnny twice, he strolled by alone with two body guards." Dean said he was so nice, he stopped, talked with him, signed an autograph for me and walked on. Believe it or not he came around again and I missed him the second time too. I was sooo disappointed.

When asked by Donna Freydkin of USA Today, how he prepared for the evening, he said. "I took a shower, shaved and brushed my teeth. But you can never be prepared. You’ve got to walk around in confusion, not understanding why someone wants to give you something as prestigious as this." I assume, that is what he was doing, walking the halls.

As we were going back to our table for dinner, we noticed that Johnny was back at his table. We really did not want to intrude but, well, you know, it was JOHNNY DEPP for goodness sake. We walked right up to him. He remembered Dean from the hallway so he introduced me. He stood right up, shook my hand, said it was no bother, a pleasure to meet me. I told him what a pleasure it was to meet HIM, and that I thought his work was great. He leaned towards me as if he couldn’t hear what I was saying, so I leaned in too. Before I knew what I was doing I reached up, touched the side of his face, and blurted out, "I think you’re wonderful!" Oh my God, I thought, Did I just do that… say that??. …. honestly, it’s a blur. But, he couldn’t have been nicer. When I said with no uncertainty, he would surely win The Oscar this year for Finding Neverland, he gave me that surprised, confused, Johnny Depp look and graciously said, "Really? Thank you." As we were walking away we remembered we had the camera and hastily got off one shot. Again, I was thrilled but upset that we hadn’t gotten a picture with Johnny.

Fortunately, unbeknownst to us, there was a photographer or two in the balcony who got two great shots of this. There are dozens of websites and millions of fans devoted to Johnny Depp. Imagine my surprise when two days later I logged on to my favorite , www.deppimpact.com, and through links on the site clicked on to two photos of Johnny, my husband and ME. I still can’t believe the whole thing. I have my own photos of the event but none that good. Thank you to the photographers that took those photos and for posting them. I would think it was all a dream if it weren’t for that.

After dinner and entertainment it was time for the awards. The Actors’ Fund of America was honoring Thomas C. Short, International President (I.A.T.S.E.) with the Actors’ Fund Medal of Honor, J. Nicholas Counter III, President Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, The Actors’ Fund Nedda Harrigan Logan Award, Angela Lansbury, A Special Lifetime Achievement Award, and Johnny Depp, The 2004 Lee Strasberg Artistic Achievement Award.

He seemed honored, but bewildered, as he commented on the montage of his work, "weird", shown to the audience just before being presented The Lee Strassberg Award for Artistic Acheivement by Whoopie Goldberg. "I’m flattered but dumbfounded." Johnny is funny. In his words, "I’m just glad I made it up here without passing out, vomiting or soiling myself," self effacing, "it’s happened before." and as I’ve said, very polite and gracious.

As the evening came to an end and we were on our way out, we were fortunate enough to get close to Johnny again. This time we offered our congratulations and got an autograph for our daughter, Kaitlyn. I hesitated to leave but security was wisking him away. The evening was over, it seemed a great time had been had by all, especially me. I will never forget this night.

I’ve read other fan encounters and I have to say I never thought I would be writing my own. However, they made me believe that it was possible. I made up my mind that this was something I really wanted to do, and I did it. However, I don’t want to cross it off my list just yet. If the opportunity presents itself, I would not hesitate to say, "Hello," again.

OK, we got to the party and walked through the door and i saw Johnny stood right near me!! We walked over to him but grey haired security guy told us no photos, no autographs and no chatting as it was a dinner. So, Lisa, Ann, Janine and me went and sat down, but Natz managed to talk to Johnny and got a handshake off of him.

Then we had dinner. Then Janine went over and got to talk to Johnny. She gave him her Sleepy Hollow book and got a hug and a kiss on both cheeks from him. She came back over to us grinning from ear to ear so we headed back over to his table. Loads of people were around him and the security guys were being anal again.

Then i saw him and Vanessa head for the exit, so i gave chase and got to the door when they did. I was stood next to Van so I said, "Hi, Vanessa," and she said hello back. I asked to shake her hand and told her it was great to meet her and she replied "great meeting you too." Im so chuffed I spoke to Van!! Then it dawned at me that Johnny was watching us!!! I turned round to him and shook his hand and he covered my hand with his. I told him I thought the film was brilliant and he thanked me and smiled. I was a little lost for words! He looked so amazing. Then the security guy pushed me back and Johnny and Van went out the door.

I went back to the table all excited, then Lisa and I went out for a sly cigarette and we realised Johnny was still there!!! He was stood by his car talking to Harvey Weinstein, we went over to him and were swiftly cut of by big nasty thuggish security man who was yelling at us to go away and he shoved me and rather embarrasingly i fell over!!!

Johnny yelled "hey" at the security guy and Harvey said "Theres no need for that." Johnny then took my hand and helped me up asking me if i was ok!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!! He was really concerned and annoyed with the security guy. I said i was ok and then said to him that we were at Pinewood, did he remember us? He looked like he thought for a moment and then said "oh yeaaahhh!!" when it dawned on him.

He asked us if we'd had a good night and Lisa said, "yeah and it just got better." He laughed.

Then i said "Do you remember that Lisa offered to buy you a drink?" and Lisa said, "Yeah, but i couldnt buy one as they are all free!"

Johnny laughed and said "yeah, thats right! Awww, Im sorry though, I have to go. Im working tomorrow morning."

Then Lisa said, "Oh Ive got job interviews tomorrow!!"

Johnny said, "you should go home to then!!!" We all laughed!!

Then I said "I loved the film, it was amazing." And Lisa said, "yeah, if you dont win an Oscar for this one, Im going to write to someone."

Johnny laughed, pointed to Harvey and said "Well, you'd better write to him then." More laughing and we then shook Harveys hand as well.

Then I asked Johnny for a hug and he gave a big one and then gave Lisa a hug and then i think one of the security guys said "OK girls, we have to go now." So, we said bye to Johnny and were gone!!!!!

So it was pretty cool! I cant believe Johnny was concerned about me!!!

We didnt get many photos as we were told not to take em and it was more about just getting to talk to him!!

Venice Film Festival 2004

I'm a girl from Sweden, so I aint that good in English..

Well I was going to the Venice Film Festival, because I knew he where coming there! Two days before the festival, me and my cousin took the flight from Stockholm to Milano, so we got to drive a while before we came at the hotel, that where in a city a little away from Venice. Me and my cousin where so exited to meet Johnny Depp, so we didn't do anything the day before we should go to Venice! So the day has come! Me and my cousin took with us our film camera and some pens to get his autograph.

When we got to Venice, we got a real good place to stay! Then we waited, and waited... And then He came! Oh my god! He was sooo handsome and he looked so fine.. I screamed and my cousin screamed! And when he got closer to us, we coud smell him.. I took pictures and when he came against me I said this:

"Hi Johnny!!" And he said, "hello you..!" - "Can I get your autograph please?" - "Yes sure.." -- "Thank you soo much, I have came all the way from Sweeden to meet you..!" - "Oh, really, then you have to be a big fan.." (he smiled at me) "Yeah I'm your number one fan.. can I get a hug from you???" - "Of course you can.." (he gave me the most wonderful hug I ever had, and when I thought he was finished, he kissed me at my cheeks!)

Then my cousin asked if she could get a hug to and he said yes, but he didn't kiss her cheeks so I said to him that he shoud kiss her cheeks to, because she where a Big fan aswell..:) And then he said okay.. and kissed her cheeks.. And so he waved at me and said: "see you soon.."

I was standing there all the time when he signed autographs to other fans and just looked at him.. and when he where going away I said to myself: "I love you Johnny Depp!"

We got to the studios on the Isle of Man at 6:00 in the morning. Extras were already arriving to go into make-up. We got talking to Warren again, who said that Johnny would be arriving in a silver Audi A8, and that he would probably be there between 7 and 8.

We put up a banner that Natz had made on the wall outside the studios which said, "We are your number one fans, Johnny, please talk to us!!!" We also had a Pirates t-shirt that we put on the wall next to it.

All the cars that went past looked at the banner, and people were smiling and waving at us. I think they thought we were mad!!!!

The first actor to go past was Johnny Vegas. He waved at us and gave us the thumbs up. He was joking with us, making us think he thought the banner was for him. Of course, he knew it wasn’t! We were even given breakfast by the caterers!

Then, at about 8.15 a.m., it all started...

A silver Audi came round the corner. Melina and I ran up to the car as it slowed down. Melina got to the car first just in front of me, and Jo and Natz were just behind me. The window wound down, and Melina popped her head in! As I got to the window, she was talking to Johnny asking if we could have autographs and photos. I looked in and saw him. He smiled at me and Melina and said, “Sure." He then smiled at Jo and Natz and opened the car door and got out.

The first thing I thought was how amazingly good looking he was. He looked great in what he was wearing (blue jeans, pink shirt with a green shirt over that and a creamy colored coat over it all).

He walked over to Melina, who shook his hand and told him that she had come all the way from Belgium to see him. He looked genuinely happy to hear that, although I think he was a little shocked! He then walked over to me, and I shook his hand. He has a really firm handshake! I said, “Hi, Johnny, it is nice to meet you.” He thanked me for coming, then he bent forward and gave me a kiss on the cheek, and I kissed his cheek! All I remember thinking as he bent forward is OMG! I am gonna kiss Johnny Depp!!!!!! He then hugged and kissed Jo and Natz.

Then he signed autographs for us all - more than one for Melina and Natz who had friends that couldn’t make it. He asked each of us our names and even asked us to spell them for him. He wrote different things on each autograph. On mine he put, “Lisa, best wishes to you always – Johnny Depp". On Jo’s he put, "Jo (after asking how to spell her name), all good always – Johnny Depp."

He asked me, Jo and Natz where we came from, and when we said we had flown over from London, he looked each one of us in the eyes, smiled at us and said, “No, really.” Again he seemed genuinely shocked that we made the effort for him – bless him.

Then I did a really funny thing, and I still can’t believe I did it – Johnny's security guard was looking though the 2003 JD calendar that Natz had gotten signed. He stopped at the picture that she had asked Johnny to sign, which was a gorgeous one of him around Sleepy Hollow time. The security guard looked at us all and said, “That’s a nice picture." I looked at him and said, "Yeah, it is!" Johnny looked at the picture and laughed. It was almost as if he was remembering the picture being taken. It was a nice moment and showed how relaxed Johnny was with us.

Melina had brought Johnny some red wine (it was a French wine). When she gave it to him, he was really chuffed and gave her a kiss and hug. He then said the name of the wine in French and said thank you to her in French! It was great - it sounded so romantic. Melina then said that she heard he was in Belgium earlier in the week, and again he looked a little shocked as he nodded at her and said, “Yeah, Brussels." Again, another nice moment!

We then had photos taken with him. Natz went first, and I took the picture. The sun was over Johnny’s left shoulder as was really in my eyes, and after I took it he said to me that maybe we would stand the other way so that the light would not ruin the photo! All I remember thinking was Oh my god, he is asking my advice! Also I remember thinking how nice that was of him to worry about the photo being ruined. So I took it again.

My sister went next (Jo). Again I took the photo, and I watched as my sister's idol put his arm around her and pulled her close to him. I was nearly in tears at this point, as I was so unbelievably happy for her. I had to stay calm, though, and take the photo. I then looked at Jo and nodded at her to say that the photo was OK. She looked at Johnny and thanked him. He smiled at her and thanked her for coming. Then she walked over to me, and I gave her the camera. It was my turn.

I walked up to Johnny, and he smiled at me. I stood next to him, and he put him arm around my back and pulled me next to him as he had done with Jo. I put my arm around his back and waited while Jo took the pic. He was rubbing my back, and I have since found out that he did that with all of us! After Jo took the pic, Johnny looked at me and said, “There you are,” and smiled at me. I thanked him, but I have to admit that things were a bit overwhelming from there on in!

I then took Melina’s pic with him. After that, Natz asked him if he wouldn’t mind looking into the cameras so we could have a nice close-up pic of him on his own, which he was happy to do. Natz then pointed out the banner, asking him if he liked it. We all watched him look over and read it, and he laughed and said that he did!

It was then time for him to go. He walked up to each of us and gave us a massive hug. Natz was first. She has since said that she really wasn’t expecting it! He then hugged Jo, and she hugged him really tight - and he hugged her back like that. Then he kissed her cheek again, and she kissed his. She thanked him for his time, and he thanked her again for coming.

He then hugged me, and it was amazing. I hugged him quite tightly, I think – it is all a bit of a blur! He kissed my cheek again, and I kissed his. He thanked me for coming to see him, and I thanked him and wished him good luck with the day's filming. He smiled at me and said, "Thank you." He then hugged and kissed Melina and thanked her again for the wine.

He looked at us all and thanked us again for coming, and then did what I can only describe as a “Jack bow”. It is from his opening scene in Pirates after the guy on the docks says, “Welcome to Port Royal, Mr. Smith." That was quite amazing for us all, as we all love Jack Sparrow!

Then he walked over to the car, smiled a dazzling smile, and got in. Then he was gone! As you can imagine there was much screaming going on.

All I can say is that Johnny Depp has made our lives! It was the most amazing 10 minutes of our lives, and he is the nicest guy you are ever gonna meet.

Following the bad press reported in the Taunton Times about JD’s failure to meet the fans at Montecute House earlier in the week, I would like to redress the balance by saying that he met fans here in Wells last night. Although we had to wait for a while until he was ready, we ALL got to meet him in turn in a trailer where we were given the opportunity to have pictures taken and get an autograph. We also had the opportunity to have a quick chat and the whole thing was very relaxed. As far as I could see he was personally dedicating every single item he signed! And he appeared to be a very unassuming, courteous and modest man – my family and I were certainly impressed!

BAFTA Awards, January 2004

Yesterday I was in Leicester Square for 9am and got tickets for the Grandstand right opposite the entrance to the Odeon. We still weren't sure that Johnny was going at this point. After we got our tickets, we joined the queue for seats in the Grandstand to get down the front. At 15.30 they let us in. I was sat up the back so didnt meet lots of people but I saw - Billy Boyd, Renne Zellweger, Val Kilmer, Patrick Stewart, Paul Bettany, Holly Hunter, Scarlet Johnannson, Meckenzie Crook, Andy Serkis, Bill Nighy, Emma Thompson. Towards the end of the "red carpet," the people in the front of the grandstand moved into the cinema as they were competition winners so me and my sis Lisa jumped over the seats to get to the front. Then we met Jude Law, Peter Jackson and Ian McKellen.. and now I get to the best bit!!!

They kept telling us Johnny was on his way but he literally was the last star to arrive. He didn't stop for interviews or pics and was gonna walk straight into the cinema. My sis was screaming at me that he was right there but i couldnt see him as a big guy was in the way. Then Johnny moved and he was right in front of me!!!! I screamed and caught his eye and he smiled back at me, even laughed! I was going mad, screaming "Please Johnny come over, please" over and over and he made a face at the guy (minder I guess) stood next to him, as if to say "I'm late, can't stop" but I kept screaming and begging and he indicated to the guy that he would be 5 minutes and the guy nodded. Then Johnny walked over!!!!!

He was sooooo gorgeous!!! He smiled right at me as he took my pic I was holding out to sign and his eyes were amazing. He said "Hey there, how are you" and asked for my pen! I just stared at him open mouthed, I wish I could have said something. As far as i know, I've blown my only chance to talk to Johnny Depp! I did manage to mutter "Thank you" though!!!! He signed my Jack pic for me. Lisa said, "thanks so much Johnny" and he said to her "dont worry, it's fine." He was wearing cute glasses. He was wearing a back suit and white shirt but i know you've seen the pics!!! He then signed the girls stuff who were stood next to me and was then off, into the cinema. Cue much screaming between me and Lisa!!!

I still can't believe it!!

December 11, 2003

On Thursday night, 12/11/03, I went to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" screening in Westwood at the Mann Theater. My cousin is in SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and was able to bring a guest to the Conversations. So, my cousin and I went. I was so excited to be able to see THE Johnny Depp.

We got there and saw POTC first, then Melissa Gilbert, president of SAG, brought out Johnny Depp. I was so excited. That night, he talked about his family (mentioning Vanessa as "my girl", which was so incredibly sweet), his career, his life, his movies, etc. He cracked some jokes here and there, which was cool. He was incredibly sweet and so beautiful. I can proudly say that he is the most beautiful man I have ever seen.

During his Q & A, he was taking off his jacket, and I was so excited that I yelled out, "Take it all off!" when all the girls around me started cheering. It was funny but sadly, he did not take it all off.

After it was all over, there was a small crowd around him, so I decided to go to where he was. Right when I got there, the body guards were telling people to go home, but I kept on going, trying to get through the opposing crowd. So finally I got to him, about 2 feet away from him. I got to see his tattoos from up close, his arms, his face, his eyes (through his glasses of course), everything. I was on his side so he couldn't see me very well, though, and thank God he couldn't since I was staring at him. But right before he went backstage, where it was off limits, (still 2 feet away from him), I yelled out, "I love you, Johnny!" He turned around, waved at me and smiled, then he left. I felt like I was going to faint.

It was my dream come true. I am such a big fan of his, and seeing him in person made my life complete. LOL! My dream was to meet him or at least see him up close in person, and I did. I am so thankful that my cousin took me.

Well, that was my encounter with Johnny. It was so awsome, and I really hope that I get to see him again. He is such an awesome man, the most beautiful man ever.
