News Briefs

- Telegraph.co.uk offers an article about Sacha Baron Cohen while filming Sweeney Todd in London. Carmelo Guastella, his personal barber and technical adviser, says the Borat star is inclined to tease Johnny Depp. “When Johnny told Sacha that he might be going to Los Angeles, Sacha told him that he had a lot of contacts in that city and he promised to ask them to do what they could to help him.” The article also quotes Christopher Lee about working with Johnny and Tim Burton once again: “It’s always fun working with Johnny and Tim. Johnny is one of the greatest actors of his generation. And when Tim is behind the camera, one just feels the waves of enthusiasm.”

- In other “Johnny and Tim” related news, CalendarLive.com offers an article about the real Ed Wood to promote the release of a DVD collection of the director’s most memorable films.

- IGN.com reports director Robert Rodriguez recently discussed the possibility of “blind gunslinger” sequels to the 2003 film Once Upon a Time In Mexico at the SXSW Film Festival:
“I thought I could do two trilogies, but with only five movies because you could go El Mariachi, Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. But then Once Upon a Time in Mexico is the first one in series with the Blind Gunman where you do two more sequels, which would be Once Upon a Time in Mexico 2 and 3,” explained Rodriguez. “So I thought, ‘That would be really cool if I could do that.’ So I cut together a trailer of some footage I had of Johnny Depp walking blind one night while we were doing Once Upon A Time in Mexico. I had Johnny come down to the edit room and I said, ‘Hey, check this out.’ And I did the voiceover for it while he was walking and I added music, and I said, ‘The man with no eyes is back. Once Upon a Time in Mexico Part Two!’ And Johnny goes, ‘I’m there.’ And I just thought, ‘Wow.’ I don’t know if I’ll ever get around to doing that, but I think it would be cool. I have all kinds of adventures for him.”

On a personal note: That would be cool. I’ve been wanting to see ‘blind gunslinger’ sequels since the credits rolled in the cinema opening night in 2003.
