Early Opening for 'Pirates 3'
According to Variety, the US release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End has been moved up a few hours and will now open in theatres beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 24th.
Disney confirmed the move Monday, a day after Sony's "Spider-Man 3" demolished the domestic opening weekend record in $151 million in North America -- $15 million more than last July's $135.6 million launch for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."
As is often the case with tentpoles, the new Spidey record included early showings -- in this case, screenings of at midnight and 3 a.m. on opening day, last Friday.
Disney said it began asking exhibitors last week to schedule the first screenings of "At World's End" for 8 p.m. on May 24 -- a Thursday that ushers in Memorial Day weekend. With anticipation sky-high for the third "Pirates," Disney could conceivably regain bragging rights for the top opening frame.

Well, well, well,we see how Spidey did some early business. Capt. Jack will take care of business, his way too,his fans will push POTCAWE OVER THE TOP BACK TO#1! And to think Tobey was in "Fear & Loathing",umh, didn't learn much did he now? Disney got smart quick letting Johnny do ol' Jack HIS WAY! And all of us are richer for it,(just in different ways). Can't wait for Sweeney Todd, though, well its on to Shantaram. Good luck JD, I love yu'man!!
Captain Jack will soon squash the Spider.
This LA fire in Griffith Park, is it close to Johnnys' mansion? I hope not and pray for anyone and the firefighters, folks its going to be a long summer in good ol' So Cal. How many theaters is POTCAWE getting distributed to? Surely Disney can handle more than Spidey did!
OMG! ITS COMING OUT 4 WHOLE HOURS EARLY!!!!!!!!
AHHHHHHH!
Who really cares if it breaks a record again? We all know Johnny doesn't care about that stuff. Personally, I was kinda disappointed by Spiderman 3 and thought the first two were a lot better. Just because a movie breaks records doesn't mean it's good, just that everyone was excited about it and was expecting it to be good. But with all of this "early release" and multiple midnight showings business, I mean, come on, do we need to get out a ruler? :-P
You are missing the point about the Pirate x3 movies. It is old-fashion storytelling mixed in with up to minute visual effects. Add AWEsome actors and you create the blockbuster. This is exactly what Verbinski is best at. So too, with Johnny, the $$ aren't the means to the end, just the icing on the cake. He likes doing the character, and Capt Jack is perfect for his type of humor. As long as Johnny doesn't get bored, neither will we. Of course I've loved anything on screen he's done in the last 20+ years. I've never listened to critics, because I'm the one paying the movie ticket.
corpsebride I agree - BUT I did just by my tickets on Fandango for Thursday night!!! Can't wait - Valerie NJ
