Brando Documentary on DVD

posted by Trish Bennett 10:51 AM

Businesswire reports Warner Home Video will release the TCM documentary Brando as a 2-disc DVD set on October 9.

This critically-acclaimed film pieces together decades of Brando’s performances with rare, never-before-seen footage and a series of original, in-depth interviews with family members, childhood friends and a host of his Hollywood peers and co-stars, including Johnny Depp, Robert Duvall, Jane Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Edward Norton, Al Pacino, Sean Penn, Martin Scorsese, John Travolta and Jon Voight. The result is a captivating look at one of the most legendary talents of the 20th century. Variety’s Brian Lowry called the documentary, "an engrossing, painstakingly thorough portrait of the actor’s tumultuous life… a general paean to acting, with Brando as a defining practitioner of that craft."

Photo from the filming of "Divine Rapture", a project from 1995 that was unfortunately abandoned after two weeks of production when financing for the movie fell through.

Thanks Trish; I saw the Brando documentary on TMC last month and it was fantastic, a definitive "must buy" when it comes out...But, how about the "Inside The Actor's Studio: Johnny Depp" documentary on dvd that was to be released on May 1, 2007 and then I read May 15 can not be found anywhere on line or regular video stores, did it ever get released?...does Trish or anyone else know anything about this?... please reply...thanks

This was a great bio. Fortunately they left out most of the tabloid crap that gets repeated over and over on places like A&E Biography etc. It really focuses on the man in all his complexities and brilliance and makes him a real human being. Too bad someone didn't do this a long time ago. Particularly interesting was the discussion of how effective his oscar refusal was in revealing what was happening at Pine Ridge, an act which no doubt saved lives. The man who claimed he "lacked the moral courage to turn down Hollywood money," I think in no way lacked moral courage.
