Mischa's Hollywood Crush
Inside Entertainment offers a snippet of an interview with Hollywood party girl Mischa Barton ("The O.C.") in which she reveals her crush on Johnny Depp:
"I really like Johnny Depp," Barton was quoted as saying on LondonNet.co.uk. "I honestly can't think of anyone hotter. I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I was so excited to see it. I love that the movie was so dark and sinister, and you really feel like the kids are doomed. Parents were literally taking their kids and leaving the theatre during the movie."Um... did everyone see the same Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Because the one I saw wasn't "dark and sinister" -- it was just fun.

I thought Gene Wilder in the original film was much more sinister. When I first saw Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka I thought he looked like Jaimie Leigh Curtis in drag...Sorry, I am a Johnny fan. My daughter was six when we saw the film and she really enjoyed it.
I must admit - I find it quite scary too.
Johnny is BRILLIANT. That movie really convinced me, that he is out of this world!
i hate it when they label it 'dark/sinister' its roald dahl's lovable tale with a tim burton twist. result= Fabulous XD
oh and..johnnys performance was a real turn on! i found him sooo attractive in his weird get-up ;D
I mean; seeing kids being punished is not my idea of fun...
I see your point, Marielou, but I didn't really see it as them being punished as much as just *finally* facing consequences for their own actions. A big, colorful, chocolatey dose of karma. LOL! The bad ones got what they deserved -- and so did the good one. :-)

Every one in my family, including me, loves CATCF... It is the most incredible and funny story i ever seen with my family. Me and the kids have seen it at least 10 times, and we love every bit of it. It is not at all dark neither sinister..... And come on... the kids are not being punished. Willy Wonka is a kinda - 10 steps from life- but thats why it is so I Grotesquely!! totally agree with you Trish. Has the irony and sarcasm gone in this world? ( as some one on this site asked for sooner at the Board!!)
Oh, please now. OOMPA LOOMPAS EVERYWHERE,COLORFUL CANDY FOREST,CHOCOLATE RIVERS? NOT DARK,JUST PLAYFUL. CHARLIE BUCKETS'GRANDFATHERS & GRANDMOTHERS HAD ALL THE RIGHT COMMENTS ABOUT THE OTHER GOLDEN TICKET WINNERS. THEY WERE JUST POINTING OUT THE OBVIOUS. WILLIE WONKA WANTED SOMEONE DESERVABLE TO RUN AND EVENTUALLY TAKE OVER HIS FACTORY. I THINK TIM & JOHNNY GOT MR. DAHLS' BOOK RIGHT ON THE $$!
parents were literally leaving the theatre with their kids???
they were probably just taking them to the bathroom!!!
lol
love the movie...just watched it again today!!
dark and sinister? i thought it was funny and cool. humm...weird
What the hell was so scary about that movie? I fuckin LOVEDD ITT and i think its a better versionn i dunno It was really good. I didnt see anything "Dark" or "Sinister"
I love Charlie, but I can see why people find it dark and creepy. This guy at my work thought it was like a decent into Hell, heehee.
I think it just depends on your own personal taste and comfort level :)
Johnnys make up and those teeth were beyond freakish. But I think parents drageed their kids out because they couldn't take the changes that were made more than parents dealing with freakeds out kids.
That's the danger of remaking something. You'll always have those who can't take the change.
Dark and sinister??!!! Parents leaving with their kids!!!??? Not when i saw it they werent. The kids near me were certainly loving it as was myself and my son.
Umm okay...that's a bunch a bull. I took my younger sisters to see the movie and they loved it, as did I. The movie is super colorful and fun. I really don't think she saw the movie, guess she just wanted to fill the air with her words.
some people say the most STUPID things just because
dark and sinister my ass!
Agree Trish - I didn't like the original movie at all - in fact I didn't finish watching it - therefore I wasn't overly enthusiastic to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but since it was Johnny I ordered it and watched it - It's been running on HBO ALOT and I have come to really love this movie - I see absolutely nothing dark or sinister at all about this movie - and finding out things like 40 trained squirels just makes it more amazing -- like going from black and white in Wizard of Oz into all that technicolor!!! Love it - Johnny can do it all!!! Val, NJ
I loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The most recent one with Johnny is closer to the book than the first one. And if people think that it dark and sinister then what do they think about rated R movies cause those are bad this wasn't even close. Besides you break the rules and something is bound to happen.
When I was a kid i had nightmares of the blueberry girl, in the first movie you never seen the kids or what really happen to them. everyone laugh at me because of my nightmares, but johnny depp's movie you seen the kids at the end. I noticed that right away.
Huh?
Chocolate Factory was scary, but everyone can't wait to see blood and gore on Johnny's next movie. People getting all cut up and eaten is okay, because they can't wait to hear him sing. I guess I don;t get it. Chocolate Factory of both verisons were fine. It wasn't scary. It was just a movie showing what happens to spoiled and greedy people.
I agree with Becky Sparrow, Depp as Willy Wonka was strangely attractive. I think part of it was the little boy lost thing and part of it was his elegance. It was This movie that got me into Johnny in the first place. I hardly knew who he was before, and was blown away by his performance as Willy. I was amazed that anyone could so successfully follow Gene Wilder's performance. One I saw him in this movie I just had to research him and soon got hooked. I have almost all his movies, all of 21 Jump St, His writings, drawings and anything else I can get my hands on. I've learnt so much through him. I love him to bits even if I am a grandma.
When Gene Wilder came out with that movie I though it was stupid, but when Johnny Depp came out with that movie it was hilarious.Johnny was kind to Charlie and Gene was cruel.I have a crush on Johnny Depp.I don't take drugs to get high. I look at him and I get high.
I'm a hardcore movie fan, and obviously a hardcore Johnny fan -- I've never walked out of a movie in my life, so the idea of walking out of a Johnny movie utterly boggles my mind. It was kinda dark, I guess, but that's completely true to Roald's novel! And the 1971 one was fairly dark too, just...in a creepy '70s way. Hey, I like 'em both. And yeah, the kids were 'punished,' but they didn't *die* or anything...I think it's spot-on.
Umm Yanno somethin, must have been a slow news day cause there has to be an article out there that says "Jojobell has a crush on Johnny Depp"...good greif!! Anybody will do anything for attention, even celebs.
Anyone send Vanessa a baseball bat ifn Mischa is around??HAHAHA!!!
Ummm??
Why is there NOT an ad for ALL of us whom have a crush on Johnny Depp out there??
Good grief!! Anybody will do anything for attention from Johnny...even so called "Celebs"
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE scary movies. The scarier the better..
The movie itself was quite colourfull - but Willy Wonkas eyes... weren't they the darkest thing since "dark" was invented?
And sometimes, when he was looking straight into the camera, there was just a lifetime of sadness in them. That really grabbed me..
Surely he was the child, who had been punished the most!
Dark/sinister?! What the hell... the movie was so god damn funny! Just hilarious! I was watching TV and I saw 'The making of CATCF', then I saw how Johnny looks like in it, then I sad ‘I have to watch that movie’! Before that I liked Johnny, but after that movie I became a REAL Johnny Depp fan. When I saw his performance I was amazed (but I sad also ‘God he doesn’t look like that at all, does he’) and I started to search the internet... and then I realized how much I’ve been missing. That’s how I became a Depp Fan! I wonder has she ever seen that movie?! I think she HAS NOT! LOL!
"Dark and sinister"? i think she must have been watching a different film. Or else she gets scared real easy.
Well, the thing that makes this version of Roald Dahl's classic much less sinister than the original, is that there is alot of explanation of the strange things that happen. For instance, the reason Willy Wonka is so strange and doesn't have any people skills is because his dad was was a freak. And with the kids being "punished", you see that they all are alive and can see the humor in what happened to them. In the first movie, Willy Wonka is kind of portayed as a psycho obsessed with candy. Kind of like todays pedophiles... hmmmm... and in the original the children's fates are unknown, but one can assume that Veruca pretty much burns in the incinerator... now tell me, which one is scarier. I think people are more apt to like the first one because it's what they grew up with... but anyway, hats off to Mischa for spotting a great actor!
It's amazing how many people only got into Johnny Depp after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Still it doesn't matter if you found him on Elm Street, Jump Street, the Caribbean or a chocolate factory. WE ARE ALL JOHNNY FANS JUST THE SAME.
Thanks Lena!
Yes, - if you have seen the first movie with Gene Wilder - especially when you were a kid; this one by Tim Burton must seem quite funny.
I know, some kids scare easier than others; Johnnys kids just loved the movie..
well not johnny`s best but of course any johnny depp movie is amazing...i would have reforred to like...edward siccorhands or another 1 of his movies...like potc or something....ITS NOT DARK AND SINISTER! its just a cute innocent little Tim Burton flick...with a slightly dark twist but i thought much better than the original....anyways just a JD fan showing her love............PeAcE
