I DON'T BELIEVE THIS IS A SMART MOVE, RELEASING A MOVIE, ON OF ALL DAY'S "CHRISTMAS"? I DON'T KNOW WHO IS DOING THE THINKING FROM THE MAJOR MOTION PIC. STUDIO'S, BUT I BELIEVE RELEASING POTC3 WHEN THEY DID HURT THE MOVIES BOX-OFFICE DRAW, (I BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LARGER GROSS), HAD THEY NOT RELEASED IT ON THE FIRST SUMMER HOLIDAY WEEKEND!! THE NUMBERS BACK ME UP! ALSO, SO CLOSE TO THE SPIDEY AND SHREK MOVIES!! EVEN, THOU IT DID VERY WELL, IT DIDN'T FAIR AS WELL AS IT COULD HAVE-- IF SOMEONE-- IN HOLLYWOOD, BEEN THINKING MORE CLEARLY!!! RELEASING "SWEENY TODD" ON X-MAS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!!! PEOPLE ARE GONE, AND VISITING RELATIVES, NOT GOING TO THE MOVIES, (UNLESS ONE, HAS NO FAMILY)! I WOULD LOVE TO GO ON THAT DAY, TRUST ME I'M A DEPP FANATIC, BUT I HAVE FAMILY OBLIGATIONS, YOU CAN'T JUST BLOW OFF!! STUPID DECISION BY WHOMEVER IS THE MOVIE COMPANY INVOLVED HERE!!! HOPE IT DOESN'T AFFFECT TICKET SALES, LIKE POTC3??? THIS IS DEFINATELY NOT THE DAY TO RELEASE A DEPP FILM!!!

Hi paris anne read your comments with interest. No doubt im completely over reacting but theres part of me that thinks johnnys career is being affected (either deliberately or accidently) by some of the actions of studios or other people.

I think most johnny fans will agree that the publicity (or lack of it) was really badly handled by disney and now sweeny todd is being released on christmas day. In the words of john mcenroe `they cannot be serious` I am a total johnny nut but there is no way i can get to a cinema on christmas day. aside from family comitments there is no public transport here on christmas day (or boxing day for that matter)and my nearest cinema is about 30mins train ride away.

Sorry to rant on, but i really feel johnny, and his films, arnt being treated with the respect they deserve.

Ummm.... I definitely agree with Paris Anne. I guarantee you this will hurt box office sales. Even if there are people who can go on Christmas, it's a given that the majority of people won't. Not a smart move.

im agreed about the christmas release is not good for the ticket sales but our johnny is not interested in box office anyways and what are you talking about potc 3? its number 1 this year and made $955 millions, i think its pretty good. isnt it?

Well, if Warners' is smart, they will advertise in a way that keys people to want to getta up n' go to the cinema & see J.D. It may be an economical Christmas present,(go see Johnny Depp at his gruesomest). Meaning, play up the fact this is slash & go, but Sweeney is killing for a reason, go see the flick to see why? Or ever see Depp sing,(no?) Well advertise NOW YOU CAN!! What critics say may actually help this time around, because they WANT to see something totally different!! Us Deppers will I think be surprised by what America will do.

I think too that early release of the movie will not do good to the box office. But definitely will do with the critics.
Just remined me Robert Rodrigers Grindhouse released on Ester day.

But I can be wrong, I hope for that.
There is some new poster of Sweeney Tod movie on website:
