Book Shares Gonzo Tales
The Baltimore Sun offers an early review of the book "GONZO: The Life of Hunter S. Thompson" which is scheduled for release in October. In it, Thompson's famous friends share anecdotes about him.
In his introduction, Johnny Depp recalls how "Hunter wanted to fire a shotgun off, but needed a target. He had these propane tanks and he handed me some duct tape and these things that were a bit bigger than a matchbook, and we started taping them on the tanks. ... I said, 'What are these things?' and he said, 'That's nitroglycerine.' I immediately put out my cigarette."The Denver Post also offers a brief article about the book:
Johnny Depp, who portrayed Thompson in the 1998 movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and paid for Thompson's elaborate funeral, wrote the loving introduction.
He met Thompson late one night at the Woody Creek Tavern. Thompson entered with a cattle prod and a Taser as he threatened to shock the $%#@* out of anyone who got in his path. He found Depp in the corner, they shook hands. "The beginning," Depp writes, "of a long and deep-rooted friendship."
