Congratulations Johnny!!! I loved Sweeny Todd. Bummed that Helena Bonham Carter wasn't nominated she was amazing in her role. Surprised she was overlooked. And of course Tim Burton always makes incredible movies..... Way to go Johnny!!!

He deserves it. Hope the Writer's Strike doesn't interfere with the Oscars like it did the Golden Globes, I don't want to miss Johnny accepting his first Oscar.

I'm thrilled for Johnny, because he did such a breathtaking job with this character. However, I can't help but feel a little let down that the film itself wasn't nominated, especially because it beat out Juno at the Globes. Ah well, the Academy disappoints me royally once again. But major props to Mister Depp in any case.

It is a travesty that neither Tim Burton nor Helena B-C were nominated, but I suppose I should be happy that Johnny was given the recognition he so richly deserves. His is by far the best of the nominated performances--let's hope this is the year the Academy finally rewards Johnny for years of achievement!

I'm so thrilled that Johnny's been nominated. Unfortunately, the Academy always seems to drool all over George Clooney.
I'm really hoping Johnny wins this time. He more than deserves it. I won't be surprised if he doesn't win but I'll be extremely ecstatic if he does! Tim Burton wasn't even nominated as well as the movie and he deserves the oscar too. The Academy needs to wake up!

Thank you for your wonderful work over the years and a specially for your body-singing work in Sweeney.

Congratulations Johnny!

PS:
I wish you can win this time, but I am very pleased that you are at least nominated in a very strong year for acting power from the others actors.

OMG I'm so proud of him!!!

y'all know what the irony is don't you?...Johnny hates speeches, so this may be the one time he wouldnt have to make one and STILL win an oscar. It would be the one chance that he'd get his oscar sent home to him without feeling humiliated into a speech! I KNOW YOU'LL WIN THIS ONE JOHNNY! XXX

HE DID IT......Way to go, Johnny!! I've seen all 5 nominated actor's movies, and J.D.'s Sweeney Todd performance is by far the BEST and most challenging of the talented bunch (given the singing, Brit accent, and overall look). It's too bad that the movie and director didn't get nominated (and that "Juno" probably got their spots), but it should easily win for Arts/Sets. Now let's just get this strike settled so we can see Johnny at the Kodak in person!!

When Johnny won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical category I knew he will be nominated again for OSCARS.

So when I saw in the news that he's nominated for Sweeney Todd in OSCARS I am so happy for Johnny. He really deserves it!

I hope the writers strike will be over by the time of OSCARS.

Congratulations Johnny & Good Luck!

And he thought he couldn't sing,
I wonder what challenge he will take on next. Whatever it is I know he will have no problem conquering it. Tim and Helena deserve nominations too, especially Helena it was here dream to play Mrs. Lovett and she nailed it.

I am in a bit of a dillemma here;
Johnny should have had an Oscar long ago for Jack Sparrow in "Curse of the Black Pearl".
When he didn't get it, the award kind of lost its meaning to me. I mean: if the very best doesn't get it, ... then what's the point?
I know, this doesn't make sense, but on the other hand, I'll just be THRILLED, if our Johnny finally gets an Oscar! love is not logical!

Could it be third time lucky for Johnny? I really hope so.

I've been looking at mug shots of John Dillinger on the internet. Man! It's going to take one heck of a makeup job to get our beautiful Johnny looking anything like that. (A bit off topic but Beckys comment made me think of it)

I hate to be the spoilsport ,but it would really surprise me to see him win in this category. Remember the nominations are done by the people in your category(actors nominate actors) ,but the winners are voted on by the entire academy which includes everyone. The buzz is that Daniel Day Lewis is a shoo-in. I havn't seen There Will Be Blood yet ,but DDL is no slouch in acting ,he is every bit Johnny's equal. However ,I'll have to remind myself that I didn't think Russell Crowe had a chance in Hell to win an Oscar for Gladiator either . I remember when he won like it was yesterday, you could tell Russell was in complete shock .Not to mention the academy in general is skewed a little older and some of these people may not appreciate "bloodletting" type films. I'll still tune in though if they end up airing. *fingers crossed*
