Johnny Speaks of His Golden Globe Win
The following is a statement from Johnny Depp on his Golden Globe win Sunday:
"I would like to thank my beloved friends at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for bestowing such an honor on me. It is a humbling experience, especially in the company of such talent. For many years the HFPA has supported my work and for that I have always been truly grateful. While this is indeed a happy day for me, I am overjoyed at the recognition the film as a whole is receiving. Tim is a dear friend and a true artist whose vision and skill inspire us all. He is a genius. Without his unwavering trust and support, I would not be anywhere near where I am today. Also, big thanks and respect to Helena, whose simply staggering performance as Mrs. Lovett is a wonder to behold. I must send a behemoth salute to the wonderful crew and cast of SWEENEY TODD and all at Dreamworks/Paramount and Warner Bros. Pictures. In addition, I'd also like to extend my sincere gratitude to, first and foremost, my cherished friend and agent of forever ago, Tracey Jacobs; the extraordinary man and producer, Richard Zanuck; the mastermind Stephen Sondheim; and, of course, my precious family, Vanessa, Lily-Rose and Jack, for all of their love, support and pure and absolute happiness everyday. Overall, I believe it to be a proud achievement for everyone involved and on behalf of us all, I thank you."

He is the Greatest Actor Ever and the sweetest one. I just love him.
how come he didnt thank his fans?
THANKS for printing Johnny's awesome acceptance speech. I was crushed to not get to see or hear him last night - figures he finally gets his first G.G. during the year of the Writer's Strike! But he truly deserved it, for his brilliant performance of Sweeney Todd.......go Johnny, for the Oscar next!! from Debbie in Phx.
What a beautiful speech. Maybe Johnny could do the writing for Hollywood when he has a spare minute.
Just goes to show that he does care about such things. I'm so happy for him.
I don't care what he says ,he has to be very excited about winning it ..if for no other reason than its in one of Tim's movies. He'll probably never admit this ,but he's probably relieved about the strike so he didnt have to go give a speech. Instead he could write something out nice and carefully and make sure he didn't forget anyone major ...like Vanessa or something! :)
Ah, it's about time he's won!
CONGRATULATIONS, JOHNNY !!!
SUPERB WORK IN SWEENEY TODD...
GREAT THOUGHTFUL SPEECH, EVEN IF YOU DID LEAVE OUT YOUR "EMPLOYERS" AS YOU CALL YOUR FANS THAT GO TO SEE ALL YOUR MOVIES, BUT WE FORGIVE YOU AND STILL SUPPORT YOU 100%, I HOPE YOU BRING HOME OSCAR NEXT !!!!!
FROM ONE OF YOU "EMPLOYERS"
He probably forgot to thank his fans.At least he thank Tim because all the time nobody didn't want Johnny to act in their movie, but Tim did and I would like to thank Tim too.Besides his friends&families& Tracey Jacobs help to keep his job.Iam soooooo glad he won it was about time.
Loved the acceptance speech. I wish we could have seen and heard him accepting the Globe.
I wouldn't worry about him not thanking his fans this time around. He's thanked us several times over the years and considers us his "bosses". Besides, he probably was stunned when he found out he won. I can guarantee he'll thank us again somewhere down the line. Anyway, it was the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that voted for him to win. Besides, I didn't hear of any other celebs who won, thanking their fans. It's really not an issue. What IS at issue is, HE WON!!!! FINALLY!! Now if they'd just give him that Oscar!!!
Yes I was thinking last night, I bet Johnny is please he won't have to stand up in front of a crowd and give a speech. It's always easier to say what you mean in writing anyway, unless you are a professional speaker. I did a public speaking course for a year a few years ago. It's much harder to make a good speech than some might think. It needs a lot of preparation and rehearsal. If you find yourself short of time to do this, you are up the creek without a paddle! As for Johnny not thanking the fans, any fan who knows him well, will know he does appreciate them a lot. He doesn't have to thank them every time he gets an award.
What a nice and sweet speech to thank his family and friends.
Unfortunately he wasn't able to do it on stage while receiving the award. He will be so cute saying his speech while scratching his head because he is so happy that he can't think of what to say...
I am truely happy for Johnny...he works very hard at what he does. He is one of the very few actors today who, to me anyway, makes the characters real and have depth. As for thanking his fans, he doesn't have to, because he always gives his very best to us at all times. We know he loves us and respects us, and is truely a wonderful man.
We were so happy for him. I was cheering in my Living Room. :-)
Johnny thanks us with every word, every smile, every signature and his incredible hard work at giving us his very heart in every performance. We love you Johnny - may you continue to be greatly blessed! Valerie, NJ
It was awsome to see Johnny finally get some recognition for all his amazing work. Thanks for printing his speech, it was very heartfelt. I hope he gets an Oscar also he deserves it!
Such a lovely man and a lovely speech.
It's about time they gave Johnny the Globe! It was reminding me of Susan Lucci and her quest for the Emmy. lol

Agreed. The important thing here, is that he finally got some recognition. I loved his speech. I think it's very sincere.
Congratulations to Johnny Depp on his triumph! He is a talent above and beyond all others. His defined accomplishments prove he is a man of fine creative ideals. My hero - genius!!
Its true Johnny hates speaking in public! you can see it everytime he is a bit nervous :) that's what i love about him he's so human, i bet he thinks his life is just a dream.. Love u Johnny!
i dont love johnny cuz he thanks his fans. i love him bcuz of his personality. We know he appreciates us, he doesnt need to remind us. If anything we should be thanking him for entertaining us!lol
p.s. - Great Johnny! I am so happy for you !! U are amazing and you deserve nothing less! SOOOO about time and SOOOOOO happy!
Thank you, Val!
You said it!!
It's about time he won. He is a brilliant actor and very humble. Great acceptance speech. I have loved him since 21 Jump Steet and he has only gotten better from there. Keep up the great work and congratulations!
YAAAH!! We knew they would finally see what we knew all along.
CONGRATULATIONS To Johnny and Tim.
Great speech! Congratulations and well deserved I might add! And for the movie too, it got Best Picture, right? All of the performances were delightful. Johnny did an awesome job and his singing was amazing! Helena was a joy to behold! I gotta go see it a few more times!
Congrats to Johnny and Tim. Hope this dispute is settled before the Oscars as I'd hate to miss J.D. accepting his first Oscar.
Congrats also to Helena and Tim on the birth of their daughter. Does anyone know what they have called her?
The perfect reason to go to the movies! FANTAZMAGORICAL! **NAMASTE**
yeah...GO JOHNNY!!! i ♥ him, that was sooo sweet... :) :)
classy guy.
its about time he won a globe.
hes desered it for years.
Johnny...you deserve nothing but the best...you give the best to us..now we give our best to you...so VERY proud of your accomplishments with many more to come, for sure! LOVE, Linda in Los Angeles, CA
The award came from the Foreign Press...there wasw no need to thank us. We should thank him for the quality he always brings to the screen. After I saw "Sweeney Todd" (and I swear the depth of emotion by him was from the near-death of his daughter), I watched Benny & Joon and he was perfect in that picture. I just know he is the best of his generation. Unfortunately, Daniel Day Lewis will probably get the Oscar as thye are just not willing to accept Johnny for his brilliance.
What a beautiful speech. The typical gorgeous Johnny giving credit to everyone but himself...
I'm so happy he got that Golden Globe and also not one bit surprised really...The amounts of awesomeness coming off this legend is unspeakable.
GO JOHNNY! :D
Cant wait to see if he gets this Oscar he shouldhave gotten years ago...Especially with that mind blowing performance of SWEENEY!! :O
Best wishes Johnny!! :D
