Johnny Speaks of His Golden Globe Win

The following is a statement from Johnny Depp on his Golden Globe win Sunday:

"I would like to thank my beloved friends at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for bestowing such an honor on me. It is a humbling experience, especially in the company of such talent. For many years the HFPA has supported my work and for that I have always been truly grateful. While this is indeed a happy day for me, I am overjoyed at the recognition the film as a whole is receiving. Tim is a dear friend and a true artist whose vision and skill inspire us all. He is a genius. Without his unwavering trust and support, I would not be anywhere near where I am today. Also, big thanks and respect to Helena, whose simply staggering performance as Mrs. Lovett is a wonder to behold. I must send a behemoth salute to the wonderful crew and cast of SWEENEY TODD and all at Dreamworks/Paramount and Warner Bros. Pictures. In addition, I'd also like to extend my sincere gratitude to, first and foremost, my cherished friend and agent of forever ago, Tracey Jacobs; the extraordinary man and producer, Richard Zanuck; the mastermind Stephen Sondheim; and, of course, my precious family, Vanessa, Lily-Rose and Jack, for all of their love, support and pure and absolute happiness everyday. Overall, I believe it to be a proud achievement for everyone involved and on behalf of us all, I thank you."

THANKS for printing Johnny's awesome acceptance speech. I was crushed to not get to see or hear him last night - figures he finally gets his first G.G. during the year of the Writer's Strike! But he truly deserved it, for his brilliant performance of Sweeney Todd.......go Johnny, for the Oscar next!! from Debbie in Phx.

What a beautiful speech. Maybe Johnny could do the writing for Hollywood when he has a spare minute.
Just goes to show that he does care about such things. I'm so happy for him.

I don't care what he says ,he has to be very excited about winning it ..if for no other reason than its in one of Tim's movies. He'll probably never admit this ,but he's probably relieved about the strike so he didnt have to go give a speech. Instead he could write something out nice and carefully and make sure he didn't forget anyone major ...like Vanessa or something! :)

Loved the acceptance speech. I wish we could have seen and heard him accepting the Globe.
I wouldn't worry about him not thanking his fans this time around. He's thanked us several times over the years and considers us his "bosses". Besides, he probably was stunned when he found out he won. I can guarantee he'll thank us again somewhere down the line. Anyway, it was the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that voted for him to win. Besides, I didn't hear of any other celebs who won, thanking their fans. It's really not an issue. What IS at issue is, HE WON!!!! FINALLY!! Now if they'd just give him that Oscar!!!

Yes I was thinking last night, I bet Johnny is please he won't have to stand up in front of a crowd and give a speech. It's always easier to say what you mean in writing anyway, unless you are a professional speaker. I did a public speaking course for a year a few years ago. It's much harder to make a good speech than some might think. It needs a lot of preparation and rehearsal. If you find yourself short of time to do this, you are up the creek without a paddle! As for Johnny not thanking the fans, any fan who knows him well, will know he does appreciate them a lot. He doesn't have to thank them every time he gets an award.

What a nice and sweet speech to thank his family and friends.

Unfortunately he wasn't able to do it on stage while receiving the award. He will be so cute saying his speech while scratching his head because he is so happy that he can't think of what to say...

I am truely happy for Johnny...he works very hard at what he does. He is one of the very few actors today who, to me anyway, makes the characters real and have depth. As for thanking his fans, he doesn't have to, because he always gives his very best to us at all times. We know he loves us and respects us, and is truely a wonderful man.

Congrats to Johnny and Tim. Hope this dispute is settled before the Oscars as I'd hate to miss J.D. accepting his first Oscar.
Congrats also to Helena and Tim on the birth of their daughter. Does anyone know what they have called her?

The award came from the Foreign Press...there wasw no need to thank us. We should thank him for the quality he always brings to the screen. After I saw "Sweeney Todd" (and I swear the depth of emotion by him was from the near-death of his daughter), I watched Benny & Joon and he was perfect in that picture. I just know he is the best of his generation. Unfortunately, Daniel Day Lewis will probably get the Oscar as thye are just not willing to accept Johnny for his brilliance.
