At the Oscars
Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis attended the 80th Annual Academy Awards tonight. Daniel Day Lewis may have taken home the gold for Best Actor this year, but we all know who the best actor really is. ;-)
They looked lovely, as always, and Vanessa's dress is gorgeous!
I've created a new gallery for Oscar photos. More will be added as they come through. Enjoy!

THANKS TRISH, THAT WAS QUICK !!!
BEAUTIFUL COUPLE...THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR, JOHNNY
ALL THE ACTORS WERE VERY DESERVING
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WINNERS AND NOMS!
When I watched a programme about how they voted for the Oscars I realized winning means nothing really. Half the time the people that vote havent even seen the film. We know Johnny is a great and versatile actor he doesnt need an Oscar to prove anything.
Thanks for the pics, Trish. They are gorgeous - as always!
Our Johnny is too special, too awesome, too out-of-this-world to get an Oscar.
Johnny is an acting-genius just as Chaplin was a movie-genius.
Apearently he never got an Oscar either...
Both of them will be remembered through the years and in generations to come.
In some years, another disappointed actor may say: "Well,- Johnny Depp didn't get an Oscar either - so what's the big deal.."
Marielou, Denmark
I agree about the winning thing
they just cast a ballot! meaning it all depends on personal opinion .. I really thought winner is decided by a committee that sits down together and discuss the roles!!!!
but i guess i was naive lol
so really winning does not matter..we know for a fact that Johnny is a marvellous actor and of course there is always next year
Day-Lewis it was said has only made 9 movies in 15 or 19 years,so what has he done for Hollywood lately? Nobody is going to remember his character from TWBB,but we all know who the Peoples' Choice for the last 5 years has been? Capt. Jack Sparrow,Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Gilbert Grape, J.M. Barrie,Donnie Brasco, these are roles people & Hollywood will remember. A gold ugly statue means nothing. What have you done for people lately Daniel?? As for me I will continue to spend my hard earned movie ticket money on Johnny Depp. Vanessa & Johnny are the Queen & King of red carpet, because they remember who their loyal subjects are, not some group of nominators who maybe don't even bother to see the movies, let alone have to pay for them. Onward to "Public Enemies","Shantaram", & "Rum Diaries". Johnny's just getting warmed up ya'all!
Johnny should have won the Oscar hands-down this year--Daiel Day-Lewis' performance was not nearly as masterful or subtle. He consistently over-acts in every role I've ever seen of his. I suppose we should be happy Johnny was nominated. I saw all of the best actor performances this year, and Johnny's was by far the best. As usual--he is the greatest actor of his generation.
~B
I really thought that this year would be his year...well never mind. He is still amazing with or without an Oscar. But i hope he gets one next year all the same.
I agree with anonymous. Johnny's great!!!!
Oh...Holy...Jesus. I swear Johnny has never looked so sultry and smouldering as he did there. My heart's skipping several beats right now *faints*
omg he looks gorgeous and vanessa looks so good next to him. they are the perfect couple!
I love how he was laughing after they showed the Sweeney clip. It was very funny!
I also loved how he blew a kiss at the camera. :)
Marion Cotillard of 'La Vie en Rose' mentioned to a reporter that she will be working with Monsieur Johnny Depp in the upcoming "Public Enemies" film.
Thanks! I love the way Johnny looked imbarrased after they showed his clip of sweeney todd. He is so cute!
after they announced the nominees, they shot the camera to look at johnny and i was on the verge of tears.he was just so beautiful , so modest and shy, and breathtaking sitting there with no care for what happened that night. Even though i had a faint hope that she would say johnny depp, i knew he wouldnt win because hes just too darn good for those people. Just that one glance of his face made my jaw drop and stomache flip! thanks for all you do Johnny! Ur work is greatly appreciated!:)-
ps great job trish!
I didnt actually see the show.. It was in the middel of the night in Denmark, but ive heard onday morning that it was Day-Lewis who won, i dont even know who he is.. Well hoped it would have been Viggo Mortensen if not Johnny... But any way, it is just a glamorous set up, and Johnny is much more worth than that. Some said in here... that we will forget Day-Lewis, but never Johnnys work. I think thats true, not just because im a fan, but Because of Johnny;-)Amazing acting. Thanks for posting Trish.. fast as always.
Lisa
Thanks for SO many great pics of Johnny on the Red Carpet (couldn't find them anywhere else!). Also thanks for your recent note about the Sweeney Todd costume exhibit in downtown L.A. (which was spectacular to see!). I'm just back to Phoenix from a fun-filled weekend in Hollywood, where on Sunday I stood near the Kodak and saw many stars arriving at the Oscars - but I most wanted to see Johnny, and my wish came true when his limo finally pulled up and he and Vanessa stepped out! No memory of who came afterwards.....does it really matter??!! :-)))
grr why didnt he win his oscar, what has he to do?!?!oh well daniel day lewis is a goo actor too, better that than someone i cant stand winning, next time johnny.pics are great by the way, sooo jealous of vanessa
It's great to see Vanessa supporting Johnny for a change. Or was she there in her own right I wonder?
What the HECKS going on in that last photo? I don't know who that woman is but she better get off Johnny before Vanessa b*tch slaps her. D&J
I watched the Oscar's this year for the first time ever, and I'm almost 38 years old. I only watched it to see if Depp would win, and of course I was disappointed. I don't mean to be rude, but it seemed a lot of the nominations and winners were about movies and people that were foreign and I had never even heard of before. I must be too old and living in a cave. Depp will have his day. He is just too talented and adored not to.
I have been thinking about this for the past two days, and although it shouldn't bother me about Johnny not winning, it still does. I know he says he doesn't care about the awards, and he is probably telling the truth. However, he shows up to the ceremony every time he is nominated (probably in part to promote the films & the directors), but I can't help but feel that he would welcome the validation of his talent and his choices. Sure, to be nominated is a great thing, and with three of those behind him now, no one can question the validity of his talent. But, I hate to see him become a Peter O'Toole--a great actor who never got the tangible recognition of his peers in the form of that stupid golden statue. Johnny represents all that is great in an actor's attitude--never compromise your ideals, search for art and truth in your work, etc. I also think of the anguish this part caused him--with the terrifying scare of his daughter's illness--what a great thing it would have been for him to get that award. Maybe his fans' desire to see him get it is greater than his own!
Sorry about the rant; those of you who mention that he doen't need it to prove anything are correct--I just can't help but feel badly for him, anyway.
~Barby
On 29th Jan 2008 I was rushed into hospital with a heart rate of 200, which turned out to be due to pneumonia. When I was watching the awards and waiting to hear if Johnny would get one this year, my heart started pounding again and I thought it was going back up to 200! I took some deep breaths and got it back under control again, phew! I was initially upset he didn't get the award again but when I saw that he was relaxed and didn't seem bothered, I wasn't bothered either.
Johnny, I know you appreciate your true fans and know that they care about you very much. I want you to know that I am very proud of your performance in Sweeney Todd as well as the other roles you have played over the years. Best wishes to you and your lovely family and good luck with your future projects. Live Long and Prosper, Regards from a grandma in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
I was really hoping that Johnny would win this year, but the favorites always get the award, whether deserving or not ... and we know that Johnny does not always take the roles that make him peoples "favorite."
When the did NOT call his name, and they had all the nominees pictured, he actually looked like he laughed out of relief!!
Regardless if you win or lose, Johnny, you are obviously many many people's choice of best actor!
Congrats for the nod.
Anonymous (after Jenifer)
Supporting Johnny FOR A CHANGE ...
what on earth do you mean???
- They always support eachother!
Marielou, Denmark
Sorry, but Daniel Day-Lewis performance was really THE GREATEST in this year. look at all his work - my left foot (oscar), in the name of the father, performance in gangs of new york and now in this magnificent movie There Will Be Blood.
Someone said: Nobody is going to remember his character from TWBB... Well... Watch it first. REMARKABLE.
And Viggo in Eastern Promises... He was amazing too.
I'm a huge Johnny's fan but this year he just didn't deserve to win. But I hope that with this next movie Public Enemies he will rock! And gain another Oscar nom.
T.
Trish, if it wasn't for your photos of Johnny and Vanessa, the fans would hardly get to see Johnny...
WHAT IS UP WITH THE "RED CARPET"???
Shows like E News and Entertainment Tonight were focusing on Jennifer Garner 60% of the time the other 40% on Javier Bardem, Day-Lewis and all the ladies gowns....Give me a break!!
JOHNNY WAS NOMINATED TOO !!!!!
How about at least greeting him and talking to him for 5 seconds as they have done in previous years....
These show are just so bias and empty-headed it's not even worth my getting upset...what was I expecting anyway from a bunch of JEALOUS STIFF NECKS that don't know any better.
Johnny gets the awards that matter most like the PEOPLES Choise, and the Golden Globes, and he knows his fans are behind him 100%
TO ALL,
BARBY, I TOTALLY AGREE W/ YOU!! HERE'S MY RANT! FIRST OFF, I KNEW HE WASN'T GOING TO WIN EITHER! THERE ARE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS TO THIS.(I'VE RECEIVED FLACK FROM BLOGGERS FOR THIS,) NO APPPOLOGIES, AND THAT'S,THAT!FIRST OFF, I HAD 2 DIFFERENT RED CARPET SHOWS TAPING AT ONCE, TO GET HIS ARRIVAL AND INTERVIEW. NATURALLY HE SHOW'S UP LATE, ON PURPOSE!!! SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO DO THE PRESS LINE! I WATCHED E NEWS AND E-10 NO INTERVIES ON THE RC, THAT NIGHT, THAT I KNOW OF! THEN, IF ONE NOTICED, THEY BARLEY FOCUSED ON HIM THROUGH THE ENTIRE SHOW, YET I SAW LAURA LINNNY'S MUG,WE ALL KNEW WHO WAS GOING TO GET THE AWARD DDL!! BUT IF JOHNNY DIDN'T GET IT THIS YEAR, THE MOVIE, DIRECTOR, ACTRESS GOT DISSED TO THE GILLS!! HERE ARE SOME CONTRIBUTING FACTORS FOLKS:A, I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, YOU HAVE TO DO A GREAT DEAL OF PR, AND NOT JUST 1 MORNING SHOW AND TMZ TO PUSH FOR AN OSCAR! I WANT TO SEE JOHN ACCOMPLISH THAT. SO, WHATEVER TO THE REST OF YOU, WHOM CLAIM THEY DON'T CARE, YET CARRY ON ABOUT HOW BEAUTIFUL HIS EYES AND MOUTH YADA, YADA!!! YOUR JUST VALIDATING WHAT I AM TRYING TO CONVEY TO YOU! DDL WON, THEY BASCIALLY HAVE THE SAME WORK ETHICS, ACCORDING TO WHAT I HEARD DDL SAY ON SEVERAL SHOWS! YES, HE PLUGGED THE MOVIE. JOHNNY BY WAY OF CONTRAST, DIDN'T W/ S.T. I SAW DDL ON LATE NIGHT SHOWS AND OPRAH AND VARIOUS OTHERS, AND HE ALSO IS PRESS SHY! BUT, THIS IS WHERE THEY DIFFER! I TRULEY BELIEVE JOHNNY'S "MARLON BRANDO COMPLEX" IS GOING TO COST HIM IN THE FUTURE!!! YES, HE DOESN'T HAVE TO CARE! HE'S LOADED! BUT, THUMBING YOUR NOSE AT HOLLYWOOD, WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT WOULD KILL TO HAVE HIS "POWER", THERE, ISN'T TOO SMART OF A MOVE, ON HIS PART!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON W/ HIM LATELY, BUT IF ONE NOTICED, THIS FILM WASN'T DISTRIBUTED AT THE RIGHT TIME, 3 DAYS BEFORE X-MAS?? W/ THAT KIND OF THEME??? PLUS YOUR REALLY NARROWING YOUR AUDIENCE, W/ THAT KIND OF MOVIE! LET'S FACE IT, HOW MANY YOUNGER PEOPLE,( THAT ARE OF AGE), WENT! REELZ SAID IT TANKED AT THE BOX-OFFICE! OSCAR CONTENDERS USUALLY DO, BECAUSE THEY STINK!!! THE MOVIES THEY HAD UP THIS YEAR, OH MY GOD! IT GET'S WORSE EVERY YEAR! A KNOCKED UP, 16YEARS OLD, WHITE FEMALE, WHAT A GREAT EXAMPLE THAT SETS, (FROM A FORMER STRIPPER,) NO LESS!THEN THERE WILL BE BLOOD, AND NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN! SERIAL KILLER?? YET REELZ SAID NO ONE WANTS TO SEE A RAZOR WHEALING BARBER WIN A MOVIE, OR ACTOR??WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE HW??
THIS YEARS AA'S WAS MY "SUPERBOWL" OF THE YEAR! I WAS TOTALLY LET DOWN! ONE HARDLY SAW DEPP!! DIDN'T SEE ANY INTERVIEWS, W/ HIM AND VANESSA AND HE DIDN'T WIN, WHICH I, AND MANY OTHERS, DO CARE IF HE WINS!! BECAUSE HE DESERVES IT!! DID ANYONE CATCH TIME MAG. GEORGE CLOONEY, AMERICA'S LAST ACTOR? CLOONEY PLAY'S THE GAME TO THE HILT! GOD, I JUST DON'T GET IT?? THAT COULD AND SHOULD BE JOHNNY DEPP, IF HE WOULD JUST DO A LITTLE MORE HOMEWORK, AND YES PEOPLE, IN HW, THAT IS PART OF YOUR JOB!! P.R. IF ONE DOESN'T LIKE TO DO IT, PERHAPS ONE SHOULD FIND ANOTHER LINE OF WORK! TO THE LADIES, THAT ARE GOING TO REAK HAVOC ON ME, ALL YOUR GOING TO HAVE IS OLD JOHNNY DEPP MOVIES, AND FADED PICTURES OF HIS BEAUTIFUL FACE, LIPS AND EYES!!!IT SHOWED AT THE AWARDS, AND I PAYED VERY CLOSE ATTENTION!!!
"Our Johnny is too special, too awesome, too out-of-this-world to get an Oscar.
Johnny is an acting-genius just as Chaplin was a movie-genius."
This is so true. Johnny is to good for these head trip games. We all have known that for years.
Johnny does not need any awards to show us how talented he is, non of his true fans from the begining need awards. And if you need an actor to have won awards to like them you are not a true fan worth worrying about.
I can never wait for the next Johnny Depp project to go see and will never enjoy another actor as much as Johnny.
Johnny Congratulations you are the best in our eyes !!!
Erica
Johnny doesn't need to win an oscar to make people know he is truly fantastic. Some time ago I read he was the third or so, best paid actor.. intresting!
Love you johnny you were amazing,
and how exciting it was to see you both walking through the red carpet!
Thanks for the pics!
TRISH,
DON'T KNOW IF YOU RECEIVED MY- MALCIOUS, WELL THAT'S OVERSTATING IT, MESSAGE! MY COMPUTER WENT HAYWIRE BEFORE I GOT YOUR ALMIGHTY OK TO BE APPROVED! TRUST ME, IF IT DIDN'T GO THROUGH, YOUR FORTUNATE!! I SPENT WAY TOO MUCH TIME ON A WEBSITE DEDICATED TO THE 21 AND UNDER CROWD!! I SENT AN E-MAIL ON 02 -28 -08 THAT NEVER WAS AGNOLIGED!! YOU MUST BE BUSY AGAIN OR WHATEVER!! ANYWAY IT TOLD THE TRUTH! TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, OUR LOVE IS PISSING HIS CAREER, AWAY! I'M TICKED AT HIM AND YOU!! YOU SHOULD PRINT NOT JUST THE POSITIVE, BUT THE NEGATIVE AS WELL, OR YOU MIGHT AS WELL WORK FOR ROLLINGSTONE MAGAGZINE!! TRUST ME, I KNOW, YOU KNOW WHOW I AM!! IF YOU DON'T, WHO CARES! I ALSO DON'T CARE IF YOU PRINT THIS OR NOT! HOWEVER, IF YOU JUST GOT MY LAST RANT, GOOD!! OPEN YOUR EYE'S FANS!!!!!
I knew he wasn't going to win so I wasn't surprised. Always disappointed though. Even though he might be relieved and doesn't care that he doesn't win, it's really us fans who want him to. Hopefully, one day the "voters" will wake up and give him this elusive, ugly statue. At least he's in good company of great actors who still haven't won an oscar. Harrison Ford, Peter O'Toole, Richard Burton who died never having won one, and I'm sure there's quite a list. He seems to win globally but not in Hollywood. It's ok. He'll have his day.
What I got a kick out of was watching him in the front row, legs spread, chewing gum....just like an everyday kinda guy. It reminded me of a guy sitting there sprawled on his couch, beer in hand, watching a sports show on tv....Loved it!!!
GO JOHNNY GO!!! Maybe next year.
Hey anonymous, that women in the last pics who stands in front of Johnny... where Vanessa is in the background, must be Helena Bonham Carter, i think. And they are, besides collegues, friends :-). Look at the hair.. it looks like Helenas hair.
To Anonymous who likes to rant in ALL CAPS -- I don't have a clue who you are, nor do I care. You've had your say, though, and now you're free to move on. These are the last comments from you I'll be approving on this blog.
Trish
Marielou:
I agree with you regarding Anonymous(after Jennifer). I have no idea what she's (I'm assuming it's a she)thinking. From the time they met Johnny & Vanessa have literally never been apart. They both have supported eachother from the start. Maybe she's a new fan or just doesn't read up on things or watch when they are together. Who knows! We do.
Kudos to you for letting her know.
Trish Bennett:
I have no clue either who this anonymous person who loves to rant in caps is, but I have to thank you for answering her so tactfully. This is a lighthearted, feel good website and I'm thrilled it exists. I'm disabled and sort of shut-in currently and I look forward to your website everyday. You do a wonderful job. This anonymous person must be somewhat of a coward given she wouldn't even reveal her name.
Again, thanx for the amazing job you do, making all of Johnny's fans feel great!!
hehehe...thanks trish!:)johnny is great. i dont need to open my eyes any wider.btw, the whole reason we like him is becuz hes different, where have you been anonymous?-Crystal
Trish you go girl thank goodness you wont be printing anymore of anonymous's remarks on this blog reading her utter nonsence and rudeness made my blood boil. I love Johnny for what he is if he changed just to suit what Hollywood wants and expects he wouldnt be our Johnny and Im afraid he would drop in my expectations but that hopefully is not going to happen.
Totally agree with you Trish--think you do an awesome job with the site. Not sure what "negative" this ranting person is referring to with regards to Johnny...maybe cause there isn't any!!!
I Think DDL is a great actor but my personal opinion is that he totally overacted in TWBB. I was really sceptical going to see Sweeney Todd as I hate horror and musicals but I thought it was wonderful and Johnny's performance was just amazing I think along with the Libertine his best. Its my favourite Johnny Depp film, in fact I think its my favourite film of all time.
I live in Denmark and in Denmark the interviews on the red carpet is beginning at midnight and its first ending 6.00 a.m. And i was sitting in the chair in the livingroom and hoping for Johnny that he could win because he really deserved it. I already knew that he wasnt going to win cause i already knew that he wasnt the favourite. And when they said the nominees of best actor in leading role i was preparing for the disapointment, cause i was afraid of hoping that he would win. The only thing that made me a little bit of happy was that he was taking it so calm and that he looked happy. But as Trish said "we all know who the real winner is"
Amalie, Denmark
Thank you Trish for responding to "ALL CAPS" so to the point. She's obviously doesn't know Johnny very well. He's still our Hollywood Rebel, just letting other actors know that there are more important things in the world than winning an award. I still feel he's the best actor of my generation, but I love some of the old actors as well,(Brando, James Stewart, Bogart,Bacall,Hepburns,(both). Yes I did see DDL'S performance, what I saw was some of the same usual overactedness, seemingly forced scenes, not natural from the gut, or from a frame of personal reference.Acting is not just speaking lines and making yourself portray a part.Well, bottomline, DDL can have his award, but, as someone said, nobody is going to remember his character from TWBB.JDeppfan87
Perhaps anonymous in CAPS isn't a she but a HE. Let's not give this individual any more attention. Bye, Bye CAPS guy.
To Sheryl & Marielou
My comment about Vanessa 'supporting Johnny for a change' refered to the fact that I haven't seen her at one of his film premieres for a long time. It is my opinion and I am entitled to it! (From Anon after Jennifer)
I also thank Trish for her admonishing the 'ranter' in a diplomatic manner. I agree that Johnny's fans have the right to their own opinions, but those opinions need to be expressed in a polite and non-confrontational manner.
As to Daniel D-L deserving the Oscar--I have stated that I saw his performance; in my opinion, he over-acts in everything he does. TWBB and Gangs of NY are virtually the same Daniel.
The Academy does not reward integrity, subtlety, or charisma. Johnny has all of these in spades, but I trust that if he says he doesn't really care about the Hollywood hype and awards, he must mean it. He seems happy--we should be happy for him.
~Barby
we all know he deserves an oscar.
he knows he deserves an oscar.
thats all that matters.
the fans love his work, and he loves doing his work.
this anonymous person writing in caps needs to get over themselves. the oscars is NOt all about the puplicity before the oscars, its about the movie/persons raw talent and gift. now johny didnt get the oscar =(, but we all know he deserves it. imean c'mon, did anyone else notice that he was in the dead center, front row in the crowd. DDL was in the front row and off to the side....so that has to say something, doen't it??? obviously he has major power and swing in hollywood....not to mention he is a fantastic actor...and he knows that, simply by the 100 pecent carefree look he had on his face the entire award cermony. hes awesome... and honsetly the most waited for the things are the ones you most enjoy and are most deserved =P
keep up the good work JD!
hey what's up?
i thought, this page died!! xD
You could see from Johnny's body language that he did not want to be at the Oscars but he had to.. I'm sure he is happy in his life doing exactly what he wants even if it is playing someone crazy like Sweeney Todd. I for one loved that movie because it was like seeing a play with really amazing acting and great entertaiment. isn't that what we go to the movies for? I am sure that JD prefers to be left alone in his private place and do what he likes with the people he likes.. It was great to see him at the Oscars and people should be mature enough to know that these awards dont mean anything.
Johnny Depp will be filming 57 minutes of his upcoming movie in my hometown Columbus, WI! I as well as many others are EXTREMELY excited about this small town event!
I don't have many big things happen in my life (Other than being a blessed mother) But just knowing the possibility of getting an autograph really makes me look forward to something "BIG"
The film is taking place not even 2 minutes from where I live! He is set to start filming on Feb. 17th and it is said that he will be staying an extra day to sign autographs.
He is a wonderful actor and has my complete respect!
:) Lori Donnelly :)
"At the oscars" have been there for a long time now.. Dont you have any other news soon? Nothing that is good?
OMGosh! My friends, friend just emailed my friend a picture of her with johnny depp!(got it?)lol. She was working at a museum in columbus where he is shooting and got a picture with him. she said he was xtremely sweet and cool. He is wearing a tan leather jacket i havent seen before and his tinted glasses and a cute hat.I think it is oo cool she met him but i have to admiti was slightly jealous...its pretty cool to recieve an updated photo tho!thanks for listening!
I was hoping that he win on my birthday, but to me he will always be a winner rather he win or not. They such a lovely looking couple.
Johnny DID deserve to win the Oscar!!!!! But who cares??? Johnny doesn't give a sh** about awards and he's sooo right!
