Johnny Going Mad?

This might still be just a rumor but just so you know "the talk of the town" I thought I'd go ahead and give you all an update. This article is from IGN Entertainment. Personally, I hope it's true but I also was disappointed to see that, supposedly, the live action stops when Alice goes down the hole. I don't want to just hear Johnny's voice - I want to see him BE the Mad Hatter. Time will tell.

Depp Confirmed for Alice
Mad Hatter rumor reportedly true.
by Jim Vejvoda

August 6, 2008 - Rumors swirled last week that Johnny Depp might reteam with director Tim Burton for the latter's 3-D retelling of Alice in Wonderland.

Now comes word that the dynamic duo -- who have previously teamed for, among others, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, and Sleepy Hollow -- are indeed reuniting for the live action/performance-capture adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic.

According to a source for Entertainment Weekly's Hollywood Insider blog, Alice "will be live action until Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska of HBO's In Treatment) jumps down the rabbit hole and meets the loopy tea party host. The big question is whether Depp himself will don a Hatter outfit, or lend his voice to the computer-generated version."

Alice in Wonderland is expected to begin filming early next year for a 2010 release. Linda Woolverton penned the script.

So like a hand fits into a glove, a foot fits into a sock/shoe...so does a head fit into a hat!...The Mad "Hatter" character in "Alice in Wonderland" is a perfect fit for Johnny's head!...isn't it?! He also seems to love wearing hats... so there you go,Johnny! Besides, drinking tea is my favorite pasttime...even now will be more so with Johnny's new probable Disney character he soon might play coming to mind!...Johnny will definitely be the smooth cream and sugar from now on in my teacup! Can hardly wait to see him in this remake of "Alice..." :) Linda in Los Angeles, CA USA

Hi Trish and Thea
Just to update you on this - auditions for extras for this film have been held this week in Plymouth which is in the south west of England. I do hope Johnny will be making more of an appearance than just a voiceover in the film, particularly as it would be nice to see him in my part of the world as they will be filming some of it here.
Keep up the good work - I love the website - one of the best around!
Helen - one of Johnny's UK fans.

I agree, if Johnny does the Mad Hatter I want to see him do it in the flesh. He would be amazing in this role. Aw! Johnny, if you or your representitives read this, please convince Tim to let you do the role in the flesh!!!Your voice is wonderful and talented, but I want to see you act the role, with all the gear on, especially the HAT! How fun would it be to see Johnny as the Mad Hatter. Too bad they can't alter the script to have the mad hatter throughout the movie!

Perfect role for a perfect actor. I heard it might be part live action and part computer animated. I really hope it's all live action but if it isn't I'll still want to hear how Johnny does the voice over for the Mad Hatter. Should be pretty interesting.
I think the Riddler role is a rumour. The Hollywood execs are looking for a competition between Johnny's performance as the Riddler, topping Heath Ledger's Joker. I doubt if Johnny goes for competition. Even though he can do anything, he does roles he feels strongly about. We'll just have to wait and see. Would be pretty cool though!

Just found this -
Actor Johnny Depp was chosen to play "Mad Hatter" in Tim Burton's version of "Alice in Wonderland". Burton was hired by Disney studios to make the 3D version of Lewis Carrol's classic. Depp is the second confirmed cast member. Australian Mia Wasikowska will play Alice.

Thanks for this awesome site!
